2167. Army & Navy Stores:
Army & Navy Stores Limited General Price List 1939-40
Published by Trident Press International. 1999 Hardback Facsimile reprint of 1939/40 catalogue in very good condition. The dust wrapper is a little rubbed and chipped at the edges with a couple of small tears and creasing but unclipped and generally very good. Blue boards with embossed silver titles and decoration to upper and spine. A large and heavy book. Founded in 1871, the Society of Army and Navy Stores was formed by a group of Army and Navy officers to provide basic necessities and luxuries of life to all members, namely British officers, serving soldiers and their families. Following the depression of the 1920's with the reduction in trade, the membership base was broadened to permit the general public to become members free of charge. The company produced a catalogue from which a broad range of products could be ordered and delivered cheaply. This reproduction of the 1939 catalogue illustrates perfectly the products and the life style of Great Britain at the outbreak of the Second World War. |

Outlaws on Horseback: The History of the Bank and Train Robber Bands Who
Terrorised the Prairie Towns
Published by John Long, London, 1965 Hardback 1st UK edition. Very good book and unclipped dust wrapper. Clean and unmarked with no previous owner names. The dust wrapper is only slightly worn and rubbed at the edges, folds and tips and has a small water stain at the top of the spine which is only really noticeable on the reverse. This factual, unglamorised account, by the doyen of American writers on the west, of prairie banditry deals with all the organized bands of bank and train robbers who terrorized the middle-west for a half century. From the days of the Kansas-Missouri border wars to the killing of Henry Starr, the gentleman bandit, in 1921, Mr Drago presents the authentic, documented case histories of two score and more outlaws, men who rode with William Clarke Quantrill, noted Confederate guerrilla, or whose lives were shaped by him. Frank and Jesse James; Cole Younger and his brothers; the Dalton boys; Belle Starr, the so called bandit queen; Bill Cook; the Bill Doolin gang - These are some of the horseback outlaws whose stories are told - and whose legends are shattered - in this challenging and definitive narrative, which is related with all the dramatic sweep to be expected from a vastly experienced author whose knowledge of the Old West is unrivalled. |

William Shirer is one of the very few historians to have gained full access to the secret German archives which the Allies captured intact. He was also present at the Nuremberg trials. This is his authoritative historical account of the years 1933-45, when the Nazis, under the rule of their despotic leader Adolf Hitler, ruled Germany. They commandeered the Holocaust, one of the most shocking acts of evil in modern history, plunged the world into a second war, and changed the face of modern history and modern Europe forever. |

London, with a population of over half a million, was now Europe's largest, richest and most cosmopolitan city. Maureen Waller describes a familiar yet alien world. Using anecdotes, detail and amusing contrasts, she draws on court records newspapers, and recorded eyewitness accounts to create a vividly colourful vision of a city at a unique moment in its history. |
